Jiawen Chen,
Design Consultant, PLA, LEED AP

Jiawen is an interdisciplinary designer and consultant who focuses on human-machine-environment interaction. Over the past six years, she has served as an Associate Principal at a design firm based in Berkeley, California, leading multiple public space and urban development projects. Later, she worked as a Product Manager at Alibaba Cloud, collaborating with organizations such as the International Olympic Committee to develop and design SaaS products focused on carbon emissions and sustainability. In addition, Jiawen has contributed as a design consultant to the development of various tech products, primarily in the fields of generative AI and VR.

 

Anchored in experience design and spatial interaction, she integrates multidisciplinary design thinking to craft innovative solutions across product strategy, experience design, environmental design, and service design. Jiawen's enthusiasm for human-machine-environment interaction is also reflected in her research-driven and experimental projects, as well as teaching endeavors. She has served as a design critic for graduate students at institutions such as the University of Nevada and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

 

Jiawen’s work has received international recognition, including the International Design Awards, World Landscape Architecture Awards, and ASLA Awards. Her research and design strategy project, Korea Remade: Korea 50, has been featured in exhibitions at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, and the Museum of Design and Craft in San Francisco.

 

She holds a Master in Landscape Architecture from Harvard University and a B.A. in Design from Tongji University. Jiawen is currently pursuing a Master of Design degree at UC Berkeley. She is a licensed landscape architect in California and a LEED AP.
